Research Content

Information on this site summarizes peer-reviewed and emerging research about microplastics in drinking water, food, and consumer products. Research on microplastic health impacts is ongoing; findings should not be interpreted as medical advice or as a diagnosis of any condition.

"Microplastic-Free" Certification

The WQI "Microplastic-Free" mark reflects that a product's tested samples met WQI's certification standard (below the specified detection threshold) using validated laboratory methods at the time of testing. It is not a guarantee of complete absence of any plastic particle at all scales, and it does not constitute a health claim.

Independence

Wellness Quality Institute is an independent research and certification body. Laboratory testing is performed by WQI-recognized third-party labs and paid for by the applicant. WQI reviews and verifies submitted results against the standard.
